Q: What is a Thin Client?
A: A thin client is a special type of computer. Unlike a regular computer a thin client doesn't contain a hard drive, instead it is just an interface to a server computer that actually runs the applications and stores the files. Thin client users can share files using network share drives.
Q: What can I use the Thin Client to do?
A: You can use the Thin Clients to access the internet, use web-based district e-mail, and create and share documents.
Q: What applications are on all of the Thin Clients?
A: All of the Thin Clients have the Microsoft Office Suite with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, and FrontPage; Internet Explorer, Windows Paint, Win Zip, Windows Media Player, Acrobat Reader, and Microsoft’s Calculator program.
Q: Can other applications be put on the Thin Clients?
A: You can request that compatible software be put on the server. Talk to your Principal or Site Representative and have them contact technology to discuss the requirements for adding new software programs to the thin clients.
Q: How do I print from my Thin Client?
A: Thin Clients will only print to network printers. If you have a network printer and would like your thin clients to be able to print to it, call the Help Desk with your name, school, room number, the location of the Thin Client and the location and type of printer.
Q: I am getting a "flash" error message, what do I do now?
A: This error message indicates a problem with the programmable memory on the thin client. Put in a work order with the helpdesk.
